Higher education?
Vocational training?
Or both?

It’s no secret that Rostock is a great place to study: the word’s been out since 1419. There are over 250 degree courses to choose from, ranging from agricultural sciences to pop music to zoology. And when it comes to vocational training opportunities, the choice is even bigger. How to decide? Here are a few pointers:

Vocational training opportunities in GREATER ROSTOCK are many and varied. Alongside classic sectors such as tourism, retail and catering, placements are available too in specialist niches such as boatbuilding and theatre set design. For a full list of the skilled trades that can be learned, and of the region’s trainee schemes in sectors ranging from healthcare to industry, see the IHK, Handelskammer or Job Factory websites.

The region in and around Rostock hosts a variety of institutes of higher education, which together offer a wide range of degree courses. Here’s a list of just some of the places and things you can study:

  1. Universität Rostock: The oldest university in the Baltic Sea region offers over 170 courses in fields including economics, medicine, law, technology, natural sciences, arts and social sciences.
  2. HMT Rostock: Rostock’s University of Music and Drama runs bachelor and masters programmes in music, drama and music pedagogy.
  3. FH Güstrow: The University of Applied Sciences in Güstrow specializes in public administration, police sciences, and in training judicial officers.
  4. Hochschule Wismar: The engineering faculty at Wismar University of Applied Sciences offers courses in maritime studies, systems engineering and logistics which are based in Rostock-Warnemünde.
  5. FHM: A private applied sciences university, FHM runs bachelors and masters courses in economics, technology, media & communication, sport, health and nutrition, education & social sciences, and psychology.
  6. EUFH: EUFH’s Rostock campus specializes in social and education sciences and in healthcare, running courses ranging from occupational therapy to primary teaching. It offers a range of dual programmes which combine vocational training with academic study, and a number of part-time degree courses that can be taken alongside a job.
  7. Designakademie: the Design Academy is a private institution which offers courses in communication design and game art, among many other things.

Vocational training on its own is too practical and a degree course too theoretical for you? Then why not try a dual programme that combines vocational training with academic studies? Dual programmes allow you to alternate regularly between the company you are training with and a university, so that by the time you finish your course you not only have valuable work experience, you also have a degree.

To find out what programmes are currently available, contact the company you are interested in training with directly, or the higher education institution of your choice.

It also represents their interests in regional, national and European networks, within professional institutes and associations, and on the political level.
